acrylic on canvas, 8x10.
This was commissioned by someone awesome who told me to just paint anything.

This was bound to happen...

In other news, I'm having a small sale at my Etsy shop. A couple of prints are on clearance, as well as some Halloween drawings. Some paintings have been reduced pretty low, too. So check that out!

october!

I'm not dead! Here's a sketch!
fall sketch
Haven't had as much time as I would like for Halloween artworks, what with school and its sinister time-sucking properties, but I am cooking up some small special things I hope to finish soooooon.

this is henry & that is good music.

Still working on my army of pumpkin people. A few more can be found in this flickr set, and a couple are up for sale in ye olde etsy shoppe.

I'm woefully behind on scanning my daily drawings. It's been over a hundred days since I started this project, and so far I've only missed one. So I've failed, really, but that's no reason to stop. The day I missed I was really into the paintings I was working on, and it just slipped my mind. The realization actually woke me up the next morning. It was very theatric.

Anyway.

I love a lot of old music. When drawing and painting, I often listen to pop standards, doo-wop, jazz--all that good stuff. Go to Pandora, click on create a new station, type in The Platters and you will get a constant stream of perfection.

a drawing + week in review.

chalk, tea, pens & ink on watercolor paper. 9x12.

This week has been:
-parking nightmares
-lots of treking around campus in inappropriate footwear, and bearing the consequence of blistered and bloody feet
-David Foster Wallace
-being offered, unsolicited, frat boy tales of drunken idiocy while trying to concentrate on beginner's Spanish
-eyes glazing over in physics class
-thin walls and a neighbor who plays acoustic guitar and listens to the news very loudly during the morning
-painting on my Friday off

Now enjoying this long weekend and lovely cool weather with walks in the park and family and drawing up some things for Halloween. It's been nice.

new art + summer's last hurrahs.

creepyfied portrait commission
This is a commission I did for a nice fellow who wanted a creepy/zombie-ish portrait of himself and his friend. It's one of the most fun things I've ever been asked to draw. He specifically asked for the zombie owl, too, so how could I not love it?

Annnnd fall is on its way. We all know what that means, yeah? Halloween! I stopped by the dollar store the other day and was thrilled to be greeted by a display of plastic bloody body parts and little skeletons. Puts me in the best of moods, for my favorite time of the year is here. I never seem to have enough time to do as much holiday themed art as I'd like to. But this year, damn it, I'm going to make the time. It has begun with pumpkin people.

I'm going to try to draw as many of these guys as I can by the time October 31st rolls around. It's nice to have goals.

In other news, this is the last week before my grand return to college, full of enthusiasm in place of dread. I'm looking forward to getting on with things, but my eternal internal kid still groans at the phrase "back to school." I'm going to get the most out of these final days before most of my time is sucked away by higher education. Linguistics, physics, literary nonfiction, topics in film and Spanish: my life from September to December. But I'm ready!

Now, I have a cup of coffee to make peace with and fingers to abuse. Another in a series of nearly perfect nights.

daily drawings: bearded lady week, etc.

Last week I drew a bearded lady a day, which was super fun and I wish I'd had more time to do more with them on certain days. But ah well. A couple of these want to be paintings. They told me so.

And a bonus bearded lady...My dad's birthday was yesterday and this is the card I made for him. Did he love it? Yes, he did.

I've also finally had some time for painting, which has been nice. A little look at what I've been up to there:

In other news, school starts at the end of this month. I have a ton of stuff to get done before then, so. Let's go.

i am not dead. i am still drawing.

day 37 day 38
I'm trying to get caught up on scanning and uploading my daily drawings, but it's going very slowly. 'Cause I kind of hate scanning things.

A little while back I had an eye infection of some sort which caused swollen eyelids, occasional leaking and enough hurting/itching to annoy the ever living hell out of me. And so, the drawings during this time all had an eyeball/missing eye theme. Here are a few of them:
day 39
day 40
day 41
I'll try to get the rest of these scanned up tomorrow...and then the drawings from the other 18 or so days....Today will be day 60. I'm honestly amazed I've lasted this long.

Anyway, the eye hurt drawings got me to thinking it might not be a bad idea to start having a weekly theme for the daily drawings, to keep me motivated and keep things interesting. I also thought about drawing every single character from LOST and Deadwood, as that would pretty much last me the rest of the year, ha. But, if anyone has any ideas for themes I could take on, do let me know! I think I will start off this week by only drawing guys. Will I be able to do this? I don't know. If I do, will they all be wearing ties? Probably.
